Recipes - for people
who don't follow them

This web site is for people

who don't rigidly follow recipes when cooking. I think that applies to most of us at some stage.

I have a sister who is a cordon bleu chef, and two sons-in-law who are qualified chefs My other daughter has had formal training. (Only one of these still follows the profession.)

I love properly prepared food, and when I was travelling the world on expenses, experienced the amazing dishes the professional training can produce. And put on some weight in the process.

But I still prefer the old handed-down, informal ways of cooking and eating.

A recipe is not a guarantee of success, you may have discovered! However it is a good starting point.

The experienced cook can see what needs to be added or adjusted in a dish, whether a sauce is too thin, or maybe needs salt. She can tell another 5 minutes cooking is required for the rice to be just right!

It took me about 20 years to get my Yorkshire Puddings to the stage where I can get them right most of the time, yet it is an extremely simple dish! So we provide you with an idea of what to look for, rather than a list of ingredients and cooking times.
